The Heritage Burnie Ten will be a virtual event in 2020.

Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “Due to the COVID-19 public health uncertainty surrounding large-scale public-participation events like The Heritage Burnie Ten in the months ahead, the race will go virtual this year.”

Race fees for both The Heritage Burnie Ten and the RACT Burnie 5km will be reduced with registrations opening from 1 September 2020. Registrations will remain open until race weekend, Saturday October 17 and Sunday 18, 2020.

Once registered, athletes will receive a confirmation email with a PDF of their race bib attached.

Registered participants will complete (and time) their race on the race weekend, choosing either the distance of 10km or 5km. The course location is at the participant’s choice, it could be anywhere, at any time, during the Heritage Burnie Ten October weekend.

When the distance is complete, participants will then be invited to submit their time online and race medallions will be awarded.

Virtual races can provide the perfect stepping stone to a live event and help individuals build the confidence they need to enter a mass-gathered race when restrictions ease. Virtual races also offer a flexible alternative to traditional races at a lower cost without the constraints of having to race on exact dates and at specific locations. It is a relatively new concept, and we think it will be fun!

Our community has gone to a great effort and is making many sacrifices in containing the spread of COVID-19,  we look forward to The Heritage Burnie Ten 2021 returning to the streets of Burnie.
