City of Darwin has been presented a seventh consecutive Gold Award for their 2018/19 Annual Report. The announcement was made overnight at a gala presentation in Melbourne for the Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA). The Awards, established in 1950, recognise excellence in reporting and are open to all organisations that produce an annual report, including all private sector, public sector and not-for-profit organisations in Australia, New Zealand and countries in the Asia-Pacific region and elsewhere. Reporting methods are always changing and community awareness of governance continues to increase. The criteria by which annual reports are assessed is constantly reviewed and updated to meet changing business and community expectations and recommendations. The ARA provide an opportunity for organisations to benchmark their reports against world best practice and receive expert feedback. There are three types of Awards; the General Award, the Sustainability Reporting Award and the Special Awards. Winners are awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze. City of Darwin was the Gold Winner in the General Award. Melissa Reiter, General Manager External Affairs and Government Relations said “I’m extremely proud of the hard work my team has put into producing the 2018/19 Annual Report and of achieving a seventh Gold Award over seven consecutive years.” “Being awarded a Gold at these Awards is no mean feat and demonstrates that my team and the entire organisation are operating at a premium level.” “This prestigious Award recognises City of Darwin’s commitment to investing in our community with the largest infrastructure budget ever in 2018/19; which has been the platform to drive efficiencies, better understand the needs of our community and improve the delivery of services.”
