Current COVID-19 restrictions in NSW have led Coffs Harbour City Council to withdraw its application for a part-day public holiday for this year’s Coffs Harbour Gold Cup Day on 6 August 2020 at the request of Coffs Harbour Racing Club.

The withdrawal does not apply to the application for a part day public holiday for the 2021 Gold Cup event.

Since 1971, Council has applied for, and been granted, a half day public holiday from 12noon – 5.30pm by the NSW Government for the Coffs Harbour Gold Cup. This event is hosted by the Coffs Harbour Racing Club and is held annually on the first Thursday in August.

As the Racing Club is only able to run the horse races in 2020, but not host the annual carnival event for race-goers due to the current pandemic safety restrictions on public gatherings, it requested that Council withdraw this year’s application for the public holiday.
