Campgrounds reopen in time for school holidays

Campgrounds operated by Blue Mountains City Council reopened Friday 26 June.

Sites have reopened in time for the school holidays, including Cathedral of Ferns at Mt Wilson, Lockyers Trackhead at Hartley Vale and Old Ford Reserve and Blackheath Glen Reserve in the Megalong Valley. The Mt York Precinct remains closed due to fire damage.

Mayor Mark Greenhill said the change was another step in opening up tourism for the region, which has been hugely impacted by fires, floods, and COVID-19 closures.

“We’re ready to welcome tourists back to the Mountains, and I encourage our locals to holiday at home, too,” Mayor Greenhill said.

“Our City is one of only two in the world that are located within a World Heritage Area. The bush is part of our identity – now is the time to get out and explore what makes us special.”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, users must:

Register their attendance at the site, by sending their name, phone number and/or email address to [email protected]. Details will be held confidentially for 28 days and only released to NSW Health where contact tracing is required, should a guest test positive to COVID-19. Ensure social distancing of 1.5m between themselves and other guests in sheltered areas. Maintain good personal hygiene. Bring your own sanitary items, including soap, and hand sanitiser or gloves should you wish to use them. Ensure that groups of campers must not exceed 20 people. Leave at least 5m between groups when camping. Ensure only 1 person per 4m2, in covered areas.

Campers should also leave campgrounds immediately, if feeling unwell.
