Burnie City Council is updating its Youth Strategy and looking for submissions from young people, parents, services, organisations and the broader community.
The Youth Strategy guides Council in the provision of services to enhance the health and wellbeing of local young people.
Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “We would like to hear from young people aged from 12 to 25, their parents or caregivers, service providers and anyone with an interest. We are asking these people to get involved in the consultations and the development of the strategy firsthand.”
“There is an on-line survey with a list of questions, people don’t have to answer all of the questions but can think of them as a prompt for ideas along various topics. If people prefer, they can submit their ideas in their own document.”
“There are any number of ways people can get involved. We are asking people to share the online survey within their schools, sports clubs, other groups and associations and with friends and family. To make a submission, young people can ask their parents for their thoughts, or they can go further and bring together a group of friends to discuss their thoughts directly with Council’s Youth Development Officer.”
Consultations will run until the beginning of August where submissions will be collected, and themes will be identified. The second stage will involve bringing together young people who nominate themselves on the survey, youth services, organisations, and Council to work on building those themes into a plan.
The resulting strategy will demonstrate Council’s aspiration to support young people to achieve their goals and be active, valued members of the community. It will aim to respond to the changing needs and the healthy development of Burnie’s 3,510 young people.
