Have you seen Working for Victoria cleansing and sanitisation crew out and about in Bayside?
Funded entirely by the State Government, the Citywide Service Solutions managed crews are providing disinfecting services on top of Council's standard cleaning regime, at no cost to Council ratepayers.
The crew are made up of people from all walks of life, like Crystal and Bruno.
Originally from California, Crystal is in Australia on a holiday/working visa and has quickly made herself a Bayside local.
Pre-COVID, Crystal had completed her farm work in Mildura and landed a job in a local café in Black Rock, which she adored. After the café had to close and two months of job searching, she was pleased to be offered a place with Working for Victoria.
Crystal is incredibly grateful for the opportunity and has described the experience as extremely rewarding. She enjoys working outdoors, and often receives lovely comments from passersby.
Bruno was a carpentry student and barista at a Melbourne café.
After Bruno’s café switched to takeaway only, like many, Bruno found himself in need of work. The Working for Victoria program has been excellent in providing Bruno steady and enjoyable employment.
Bruno referred to his time with the crew as great fun, he loves getting out in the community and having conversations with people from a variety of backgrounds and particularly appreciates the gratitude he receives from the Bayside community.
Whilst he appreciates the money, Bruno is above all grateful for being provided with a purpose and feeling useful during this difficult time. He said, you don’t quite realise how important it is until you don’t have it anymore.
