Let’s work together to reduce suicide on the Northern Beaches

We’re working with Wesley Lifeforce to establish a suicide prevention network - and we need your help.

Join us for an online meeting on Wednesday 8 July at 7pm where we’ll discuss what a suicide prevention network is, how it works and how it could help us build a stronger and more resilient community. You’ll also hear from recently retired Superintendent Dave Darcy who has long been the Northern Beaches champion on reducing suicide.

Community networks play a key role in helping communities to build capacity, connection and bring locals together to support one another to address issues around suicide. Networks can also further reduce stigma and increase help-seeking in the community.

Since June 2018, we’ve taken a lead role in establishing the Northern Beaches Suicide Response Steering Group together with NSW Police, health authorities, local service groups and the community to make sure there is a coordinated response to suicide in the area.

Building this network is the next step after a number of projects coordinated by the steering group including training over the next three years more than 1,000 ‘community gatekeepers’ who have contact with target groups including youth, middle aged men, seniors and first responders.
