Last night, the City of Swan Council approved a zero per cent increase and adopted the 2020-21 Annual Budget.
City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said the focus of this year’s budget is to drive community recovery and wellbeing, deliver emergency responses and implement stimulus projects.
“More than ever, Council has closely scrutinised the budget because we understand the need to balance the financial impact of rates with the growing needs of our community,” he said.
“The projects we have agreed to fund are there because we need to plan for our future with essential roads, buildings and open spaces.
“Our services will continue to run to the high standard our community expects from us.
“The economic impact of COVID-19 is significant and we understand that these are challenging times for many.
“We are implementing a range of financial measures designed to ease the burden on ratepayers.
“This financial year, we will collect no more in rates revenue from the same property base than we did last year.
“We are also ensuring there is no increase in City fees and charges and zero interest on overdue rates or other charges.
“For those experiencing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19, I encourage you to contact the City and make an application for support.”
