Murrumbateman Recreation Grounds will soon enjoy a new multipurpose amenities building and as well as upgraded lighting for tennis facilities thanks to the NSW Government investment from the Stronger Country Communities fund, totalling $355,045.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman today said the $275,045 funding will assist Yass Valley Council in completing the $668,000 amenities project, as well as an additional $80,000 towards Murrumbateman Tennis Club for lighting.
There are more than 100 sporting and community activities conducted on the site, presently there is only small public toilet building across the entire 20-hectare area.
“The new amenities building will incorporate change rooms, toilets, a canteen, a storage room and disabled amenities for all to use,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Users of the Murrumbateman Tennis Club courts can also look forward to much improved lighting conditions and access to more courts, with the lighting upgrade.
“New lighting will allow the tennis courts to be used by the community more often and for longer periods for social tennis, coaching and tournaments. The design will allow for future expansion of the facility,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Yass Valley Mayor Rowena Abbey welcomed the State Government’s contribution to both projects.
“The Murrumbateman Recreational Grounds are currently the only large public space in the village and improved amenities will encourage more events, especially related to junior and senior sport, to be held in Murrumbateman.
“The improvements Council are making will allow the Recreation Grounds the capacity to host larger events, more frequently - leading to an improvement in liveability, thanks to flow-on effects for the local economy.

President of Murrumbateman Tennis Natasha Amerasinghe also thanked the State Government and Council for the support.
“The existing lighting is inadequate and the upgrade will increase the illuminated area at night from 60% to 100% using energy-efficient technology, this will save us in not only electricity costs but also maintenance.
“Our club has a membership base of over 100 people from all ages and backgrounds, and the upgrade will boost membership and general use of the courts, leading to greater participation in physical activity and subsequent positive health and social outcomes,” Ms Amerasinghe said.
The $400 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $1.7 billion Regional Growth Fund, which is being invested in local programs and infrastructure that improve the lives of people living in regional NSW. For more information, visit HERE
