Lachlan Shire Council is appealing to the public to report all incidents of crime in our shire, no matter how small.
Crime reporting records are used to produce statistics which the police utilise to determine where their resources should be deployed.
If crimes are not reported, a false impression is created that there is a low rate of crime in the shire and we do not need many police officers in our stations.
Council General Manager Greg Tory and Mayor John Medcalf OAM recently met with local state MP Roy Butler to discuss the matter. They asked for his help to have the Condobolin Police Station’s status changed from Remote to Special Remote to assist with staff replacements at the station.
Under the NSW Police Force Transfer Policy, officers working in Special Remote commands accrue additional benefits over police working in Remote or Unclassified commands. As such, these Special Remote stations are more successful in attracting officers to vacant positions.
In a letter to the Member, Mr Tory said that over recent years Condobolin has had trouble attracting police officers to its Police Station, with vacancies carried at the station for extended periods.
“This is in contrast to Lake Cargelligo Police Station which is classified as Special Remote and has little difficulty in attracting staff,” said Mr Tory.
“Given the historical problems of attracting police to work in Condobolin, in addition to the impending high vacancy rate at the station, any assistance you can provide to increase the attractiveness for police to live and work in Condobolin will be appreciated,” Mr Tory said in his letter to the Member.
