Barr Creek Bridge approved MEDIA RELEASE

Construction of the $6 million Barr Creek Bridge to connect Machans Beach and Holloways Beach as part of the Northern Beaches Leisure is set to get underway later this year.

The bridge will provide a shared pathway linking the two beach communities as part of the Northern Beaches Leisure Trail that will connect Palm Cove to the Cairns city once complete.

Council today awarded the contract for the construction of the cycling and pedestrian bridge to Davbridge Constructions following an extensive tender process.

The proposed bridge alignment falls within environmentally significant areas, which means construction will be subject to strict codes and need to mitigate and minimise any potential environmental impacts.

The bridge will be accessed from the Willow Street Reserve in Holloways Beach and connect to Air Services land in Machans Beach. An asphalt path will then connect to Arnold Street.

The low profile, concrete bridge will be approximately 150 metres long and 3.5 metres wide, and have a 20m ramp on the Holloways Beach side and a 10m ramp on the Machans Beach side.

Council has received Federal and State Government funding contributions for this project.

It is envisaged that bridge construction will commence in September and be completed by August 2021, subject to all approvals being granted.
