The Dalby Regional Saleyards continue to strengthen its place as one of Australia’s leading cattle saleyards with the construction of a brand-new double deck cattle loading ramp to be delivered in coming weeks.

This upgrade is part of Western Downs Regional Council’s commitment to upholding the highest levels of safety and animal welfare at the facility.

Council Spokesperson for Finance, Corporate Services and Business Strategy, Councillor Ian Rasmussen said the upgrade would enhance the facility and support the agents and transport operators’ that utilise the ramp on a regular basis.

“With the Dalby Regional Saleyards being one of the nation’s most notable cattle market facilities, it must be well-equipped and safe to use at all times,” Cr Rasmussen said.

“This equipment is a critical piece of infrastructure as it allows for efficient loading and unloading of cattle at every sale which draws an average yarding of 4,500 each week.

“This upgrade will replace the current ageing structure to deliver a stronger, safer and more modern ramp facility.

“We understand the importance of selling cattle in a safe and efficient facility which is why we have awarded the contract to a company with extensive experience in designing, manufacturing and installing ramps of a specialised nature such as this.

Mayor Paul McVeigh said this upgrade complemented Council’s Accelerated Infrastructure Program, created to generate jobs and deliver exciting projects for the region.

“Council is committed to investing in infrastructure that supports the region’s economy and with the Dalby Regional Saleyards being one of the country’s industry leaders, we want to ensure we deliver a high-standard facility,” Cr McVeigh said.

“In addition to the ramp upgrade, the Dalby Saleyards will also see maintenance and repair works fast-tracked through Council’s COVID-19 Recovery Package.

“Through the completion of these works, we are strengthening the services we are able to offer at the facility.”

The construction of the ramp is due to commence July 2020 and is expected to take three to four weeks to complete.
