Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, Rosalie Gallery open doors

Arts patrons can look forward to visiting Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery (TRAG) and Goombungee’s Rosalie Gallery when partial opening hours start next week.
Toowoomba Regional Council Library and Cultural Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said TRAG and Rosalie Gallery initially would re-open to the public from Tuesday, July 14 and Thursday, July 16 respectively. Crows Nest Regional Art Gallery will remain closed until further notice.
Cr McMahon said the gallery re-openings were following measures outlined in the state government’s recently announced Stage Three COVID-19 Roadmap to Easing Restrictions.
“Council is re-opening the galleries in a staged manner in line with public health and safety requirements to keep our staff and the public free from harm as Coronavirus pandemic restrictions continue to ease,” Cr McMahon said.
“Council will trial opening hours for two weeks at the galleries before assessing whether we can extend the times closer to our regular operating hours,” Cr McMahon said.
Initial opening hours: Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, 531 Ruthven Street: From Tuesday, July 14: 10am-4pm from Tuesday to Thursday. Rosalie Gallery, Goombungee: From Thursday, July 16: 10.30am-3.30pm on Thursday and Friday.
“The Galleries team has been working hard to provide a safe visitor environment by introducing an exhibition display method they have nicknamed, ‘the Covid hang’,” Cr McMahon said.
“This new way of displaying exhibitions includes more blank space between exhibits in order to allow visitors examining displays side-by-side to maintain their 1.5 metre distancing.
“Visitors will notice other safety measures including, distance markings and signage on entry, individual templates for recording contact details, safety screens at public counters and hand sanitiser for public use.”
Cr McMahon said volunteers would not return to the galleries until updated health and safety advice was issued by state and federal authorities.
“No sales will be available at the galleries, but the Gallery team will refer visitors to artists for these enquiries,” Cr McMahon said.
“We are grateful for residents’ continued patience as we move to resume services.
“I know residents and visitors will enjoy the chance to see public exhibitions return to our galleries.”
