Council staff are busy preparing for a potential East Coast Low which is forecast for early-mid next week. While its early days, these systems have the potential for heavy rains, high winds and large seas so we take preparation seriously.

Narrabeen Lagoon remains open following the storm events in February while Manly, Curl Curl and Dee Why will be prepared for mechanical excavation to open them if needed.

We are also conducting inspections to ensure pipes, culverts and pits are clear ahead of potential heavy rain, and liaising with our colleagues in the emergency services.

The community is encouraged to take steps to protect their homes and keep an eye on forecasts and warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology and the SES.

People in low lying areas around our lagoons should be on high alert as the forecast is not just for significant rainfall but very large swells. This puts pressure on both sides of lagoon entrance and can mean water can’t escape the lagoons as quickly as usual, increasing the risk of flooding.

Our experts will be closely monitoring the tides, wind, rainfall, swell and lagoon levels and have crews on standby 24/7 to take whatever action is needed.
