Absolutely fed up with illegal dumpers, Mayor Khal Asfour has asked Council to explore all legal avenues to see offenders locked up.
Channel Nine’s A Current Affair aired a RID Squad investigation into two repeat offenders responsible for 42 dumps across Sydney.
“They have no shame and when it comes to dumpers, these two are on the top of the pile and they should be locked up,” Mayor Asfour said.
“The RID Squad have been tracking these two for two years and it’s clear that fines don’t go far enough.
“I’ve asked Council solicitors to look into this as a matter of urgency.
The pair have more than $75,000 in unpaid fines for dumping rubbish collected through the app Airtasker anywhere from Lucas Heights to Blacktown.
“They’re out to make a dirty buck and targeting good people who want to do the right thing by paying to have their rubbish removed,” he said.
Facing the same penalty is another offender who dumped 50 tonnes of timber on vacant land over 16 separate incidents and fined $12,000.
“I’m sick of seeing these grubs caught in the act today and back at it tomorrow,” he said.
“If you want to be a grub, you’ll face the full force of the law and we’ll throw the book at you.”
