The Shire of Capel will deliver $20,000 in financial support to local individuals, community and sporting groups through the Lotterywest COVID-19 Relief Fund.
This fund will assist the local community through vouchers for identified community members to help stimulate the local economy.
The Shire surveyed 325 local businesses, clubs, groups and individuals during the pandemic shut-downs from March to May.
56% of respondents reported they faced financial difficulty due to COVID-19 restrictions while 62% of stated they didn’t require support from the Shire.
The Shire will use the survey results to provide targeted community grants by providing 100 respondents with a $200 voucher to spend with local businesses.
It is hoped the Lotterywest funds will help support those survey respondents who were struggling financially.
In this way, the Shire of Capel hopes the money will not only benefit individuals but local businesses too.
The Shire will also provide local support through the Minor Community Grants and Events sponsorship schemes, which are now open for application. Community group representatives may apply by visiting capel.wa.gov.au/community/funding-grants.
