Getting out and into the great outdoors these school holidays is little bit easier thanks to Eurobodalla Council’s guided enviro treasure hunt activity sheets.

Perfect for primary-school aged children, the free educational activities are tailored to eight different beachside locations; Surfside Beach, Barlings Beach, Tomaga Estuary, Mossy Point, Broulee Island, Shelly Beach, Congo Point and Narooma Estuary.

Council’s environmental education officer Bernadette Davis said they were developed to help parents answer some of the curly questions children asked when exploring their local beach, such as ‘what is that?’, ‘what does it do?’ and ‘what does that eat?’.

“The kids don’t have to stay stuck at home due to COVID-19 these school holidays – get them out to explore some of our beautiful beaches, rock platforms and estuaries and hopefully ignite some interest in the natural environment,” she said.

“The activities in the sheets cover marine and coastal ecosystems, as well as a little local history to help them understand and value the environment they are exploring.

“You could learn about Waratah Anemone, or how to identify moon snail egg cases, and which shells are carnivores. You might even get a wave from a semaphore crab while you are out exploring.”
