New app to get library services with one tap

Armidale Regional Library has a new app to make it even easier and more convenient to borrow items or access online services.

The Library App is now available to download for free from the Google Play App Store and Apple App Store, enabling members to use their phones or smart devices to book items and easily access a world of free online entertainment, reference materials and other information.

A self-service feature, introduced to the Armidale Regional Library app in time for this week’s official launch, allows library patrons to use their phones to issue items from the collection to their library card.

“In the next few months, app notifications will be added to issue reminders when items are due for return or renewal,” Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Susan Law, said.

“The app is one of the ways the library is expanding its services to the community and making it increasingly convenient to access library resources.

“It is also helping to provide a COVID-safe environment for our patrons while health protection measures remain in place.”

The app means members can now access books, movies, newspaper and other entertainment and information on their smart phones or tablets with a single tap.

Armidale Regional Library has recently updated and expanded its array of online services, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies, children’s stories and other resource.

“These services continue to be especially valuable while social distancing measures to control COVID-19 are progressively relaxed,” Ms Law said.

Members can also use the app to access a variety of services from the State Library of NSW, including legal and health advice.

The Library App is a key initiative in Armidale Regional Library’s 21st Century Libraries Strategy, to use technology and other initiatives to make the library a more vibrant resource and social hub for the Armidale region community.
