With the recent COVD-19 outbreak in Victoria and Sydney Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes is reminding residents and visitors to remain vigilant to keep the community safe.
Clr Innes said everyone had a part to play – businesses, residents and visitors.
“This has been a challenging time for us all but it is so important that we stay COVID-free so our businesses can stay open, our residents have freedoms and we can welcome visitors in a safe way,” she said.
“We need our community to play by the rules. We don’t want a lockdown - nobody does - so we all need to take responsibility to ensure Eurobodalla stays open for business and remains a healthy place.”
The NSW Government sets the rules for residents, visitors and people doing business in NSW – more information is at the NSW Government's COVID-19 hub.
Council’s environment services manager Deb Lenson encouraged all businesses to be aware of their responsibilities.
“Some businesses are required to develop a COVID-19 Safety plan, and we’ve been alarmed by the number of local businesses who were not aware,” she said.
“Closer to home at Tathra and Merimbula we’ve seen why these requirements are in place – to help authorities easily trace people should there be contact with a known case.
“I urge all businesses to complete the required COVID-19 Safety Plan and register as a COVID-Safe business - information is at the NSW Government's COVID-19 hub.”
Ms Lenson said Council was contacting restaurants and cafes to offer help with putting COVID safeguards and business plans in place.
“Food business owners who have difficulty understanding the new rules can give us a call and we’ll talk it over on the phone or come and see you on site,” she said.
“These new circumstances bring with them new challenges for both business operators and customers and a fair bit of patience is needed from both.
“We all have a part to play to keep Eurobodalla open for business. And if residents believe that breaches are being made, please report it Crime Stoppers.”
