The Great Barrier Reef Masters Games return to Far North Queensland over four days from 20-23 May 2021.
Organisers expect more than 2000 participants aged 35 and over to converge on Cairns for the celebration of Masters’ sport in the tropics.
Cairns Deputy Mayor Terry James officially opened up registrations today and said the Masters Games were the perfect way to celebrate the return of events in the region, with Cairns perfectly placed to host the Games for the fifth time.
“The 2019 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games were a resounding success with more than 2000 athletes converging on the region for four days of fitness, fun and friendship,” Cr James said. “The Games generated more than $2 million in an economic boost for the local Cairns economy and more than ever we are ready to welcome people back to our region.
“Cairns offers an amazing backdrop for this type of event, competitors can put themselves to the test on the field during the competition, relax and enjoy the Games hospitality during the night, and explore our spectacular natural attractions in their spare time.
“With most community sports returning to play in recent weeks, there is still time for sports to become involved in the Games. Popular sports such as netball, softball and cricket will all be back and we are excited to announce new sports in coming weeks.”
The Great Barrier Reef Masters Games will be held on 20-23 May 2021. For more information and to register, visit www.gbrmg.com.au.
The Great Barrier Reef Masters Games are presented by Cairns Regional Council with support from Tourism and Events Queensland.
