Gannawarra Shire Council is committed to improving the community’s satisfaction with Council following the recent release of 2020 Community Satisfaction Survey data.
Conducted between January and March, 400 residents were asked to assess the performance of council across a range of measures and to seek insight into the ways to provide improved or more efficient service delivery.
“Council thanks all residents who took the time to complete this telephone survey, with the results identifying areas where Council can improve and initiatives that resonate strongly with the community,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“The survey also provides councils with a means to fulfil some statutory reporting requirements.”
The survey identified that Council’s performance in Arts centres and libraries; Elderly support services, Waste management, Family support services and Enforcement of local laws were equal to, or above, the Statewide and Small Rural average.
“Council prides itself on providing key services to the community, which would not be possible without our dedicated staff,” Mayor Learmonth said.
The survey also highlighted areas where Council can improve its relationship with the community, including Overall performance, Overall Council direction, Consultation and engagement, Informing the community and Lobbying.
“Council has put in place measures to improve this relationship, highlighted by the development of the Draft Community Engagement Strategy 2020-2025, Mayor Learmonth said.
“This strategy, which is open for public comment until 21 August, outlines Council’s commitment to provide our Gannawarra community with genuine opportunities to contribute and inform strategies, projects, services and decisions that affect them.
“It is important to note that this survey was conducted during a period of community uncertainty following the resignation of two former Councillors, who publicly highlighted grievances they had with Council and its operations.”
The 2021 Community Satisfaction Survey is scheduled to be conducted in early 2021.
