Council elections set for October

Published on 14 July 2020

Prior to the election, Council will enter the ‘election period’ (or ‘caretaker period’). This will run from 12pm on 22 September to 6pm on 24 October. Thinking of standing as a candidate?

Becoming a Councillor is a great opportunity to contribute to your community and influence the future direction of Macedon Ranges Shire.

Do you know someone who you think would make a good candidate, or are you thinking of nominating yourself? If so, consider participating in our upcoming information and training sessions.

Information sessions

Candidate information sessions will be held in August and September. These optional sessions will cover topics including the role of local government and of councillors, developing an election platform, and how to campaign.

Mandatory candidate training

It is a new requirement in 2020 that anyone wishing to nominate as a candidate must complete a mandatory training session prior to nominating. Local Government Victoria (LGV) is developing an e-learning module that will be made available from late July to mid-September for prospective candidates to complete.
