Four new Australian citizens were welcomed into the Huon Valley community yesterday, at the first citizenship ceremony to be held since COVID-19 restrictions were eased.
A small gathering came together at Glen Huon Hall to show their support for the new citizens, who originate from England, China and Indonesia.
Attendees included family and friends, Huon Valley Council Mayor Bec Enders, Councillors and staff, as well as Senators Jonathan Duniam and Eric Abetz, and local parliamentarians Jacquie Petrusma MP, Nic Street MP, David O’Byrne MP and Robert Armstrong MLC.
In commemoration of this important day, the citizens were presented with a 2020 Australian Citizenship coin and an Australian native plant.
“Citizenship ceremonies are a significant moment for the families involved and serve as a reminder of what it means to be Australian.”Huon Valley Council Mayor Bec Enders said the ceremony highlighted the sense of community that is part and parcel with being Australian.
