City of Parramatta Council has announced the first round of recipients for the Better Ageing Fitness Development Subsidy, a program designed to provide local fitness and exercise professionals with an opportunity to improve the physical health of older Australians.

Council invited qualified fitness professionals working in the Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA) to apply for a subsidy of up to $800 to undertake a professional development course to better engage with people aged over 65.

Eleanor Spence, Anna Greco, David Ockrim, Tin Yip, and Katrina Blundell have recently been announced as the first round of recipients for the subsidy.

“I congratulate our first group of recipients from this fantastic program and I wish them all the best as they undertake their selected courses,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“Having fitness professionals specially-trained in this area will help meet the high demand for senior exercise programs in our community.

“The City of Parramatta is dedicated to helping our senior residents lead heathy and active lifestyles, regardless of their background.

“I strongly encourage Parramatta’s fitness professionals who are interested in this program to apply now – it is a fantastic opportunity.”

Subsidy recipient Eleanor Spence thanked City of Parramatta Council for the chance to expand her fitness knowledge through the Better Ageing Development Subsidy program.

“I am grateful that the City of Parramatta has provided this opportunity to learn new skills and help Parramatta’s senior residents stay active,” she said.

“The new knowledge from the course I am undertaking gives me the confidence and assurance that I’m doing the right thing when working with clients over 65 years old.

“It’s wonderful to feel like I’m helping to make a positive difference to the lives of people in my home City.”

Final applications for the Better Ageing Development Subsidy close on 31 July at 4pm.

Council is delivering the Better Ageing Fitness Development Subsidy Program thanks to $289,000 in funding from Sport Australia’s Move It AUS - Better Ageing Grant Program.
