Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is calling for nominations from residents who are interested in serving on the Toowoomba City Aerodrome Advisory Committee (TCAAC).
TRC Infrastructure Services Committee portfolio leader Cr Melissa Taylor said Council was seeking nominations to fill eight voluntary positions on the committee. Nominations close on Friday, August 7.
“The role of the TCAAC is to advise Council on matters relevant to the future growth of Toowoomba City Aerodrome,” Cr Taylor said.
Cr Taylor said TCAAC’s main topics of interest included:
• Representing the interests of aircraft operators and aerodrome businesses to Council and the broader community, • Providing input to Council on aircraft operator and business owner development issues and Council projects for the Toowoomba City Aerodrome, • Providing perspective on Council's continuous improvement processes concerning Toowoomba City Aerodrome matters, • Assisting Council to identify emerging issues and trends relative to the needs of aviation in the region, • Assisting and/or advising with specific projects (identified by Council and/or the advisory committee), and • Assisting Council in disseminating material to aid community dialogue relating to aviation and Toowoomba City Aerodrome matters.
Cr Taylor said advice provided by TCAAC had helped Council develop a 10-year, staged development plan for the aerodrome.
“The aerodrome supports about 30 leaseholders and respective business activities and is a vital link in the region’s transport network,” Cr Taylor said.
“Council has made significant infrastructure investments at the facility in recent years to support ongoing civil, emergency and associated aviation operations at the site.
“The aerodrome is a base for emergency services, including The Royal Flying Doctor Service and CareFlight.
“Queensland Fire and Emergency Services established a formal operations base at the aerodrome in the past year and previously has used the aerodrome during firefighting operations.”
Cr Taylor said expressions of interest for positions on the advisory committee could be emailed to [email protected] or posted to Toowoomba Regional Council, PO Box 3021, Toowoomba, Qld, 4350. Please outline your previous experience or field of interest.
The committee’s term will coincide with the current Council, ending in 2024.
