Register today for your special Seniors Week surprise!

Posted on July 20, 2020

Queensland Seniors Week is being celebrated in a unique way in the Central Highlands this year and council is encouraging all local seniors to get involved.

Due to COVID-19, council will deliver gifts to seniors who register to receive a surprise, in lieu of the traditional face-to-face celebration.

Community members aged 55 and over are eligible to register for the surprise.

Mayor Kerry Hayes said the special delivery is a way for council to acknowledge the valuable contributions older people make to our community.

‘Older people form the backbone of our wonderful Central Highlands community. Whether it be through volunteering for a local organisation, helping care for grandchildren or sharing their knowledge of the past, we are so grateful for the contribution our senior citizens make,’ he said.

‘I encourage all older people to register to receive a surprise and if you are a younger person, please encourage your parent or grandparent to register themselves.’

Registrations for gifts open today (Monday 20 July 2020) and are open until Friday 31 July 2020. To register call 1300 242 686.

Surprises will be delivered to seniors’ homes during Seniors Week, which runs from 17 to 21 August 2020.

When seniors register, they’ll be asked if they would like to answer a few questions including their age and how many grandchildren and great-grandchildren they have. This information will be used to determine winners of the Seniors Week awards:

King (eldest gentleman)  Queen (eldest lady)  Most grandchildren  Most great grandchildren.

Winners will receive a small prize and will be announced on council’s Facebook page.
