At today’s ordinary meeting in Bowen Chambers, Whitsunday Regional Council voted to discontinue in-house Building Certification Services for new applications effective 30 August 2020.

Director of Development Services Neil McGaffin said halting the provision of in-house Building Certification Services will not affect existing applications lodged prior to 30 August.

“These applications still need to be finalised by Council,” he said.

“Due to a market slowdown in recent years Building and Compliance Services have run at an operational loss.

“Removing this service is not expected to impact the community as there are suitable numbers of Private Certifiers practicing in the Whitsunday region.

“Council will still need to provide for the delivery of existing applications, statutory and compliance services including issuing Certificates of Classification, swimming pool inspections, compliance inspections and administrative duties,” Mr McGaffin said.
