Western Downs Regional Council has welcomed two new trainees to the team this week, as part of its popular Early Career program.
Savannah Kelly and Luke Knight commenced a 12-month traineeship with Council on Monday 13 July and will spend the next year completing a nationally recognised certificate while gaining vital on the job experience.
Council Spokesperson for Finance, Corporate Services and Business Strategy Councillor Ian Rasmussen said these traineeships were the perfect opportunity for young people to kickstart a career in the local community.
“Our traineeship and apprenticeship program offers employees valuable skills, hands-on experience and a qualification which they can take with them wherever they want in the future,” Cr Rasmussen said.
“From business to construction and beyond, we have a wide range of traineeships that we host each year so it’s great to see so many young people trying their hand at different trades.
“Our traineeships have always been very successful, and they provide a big support to our local communities by creating entry level jobs for our residents.
“We’re committed to creating dynamic and engaging career pathways which ultimately enhance skills and expertise while demonstrating the diverse employment opportunities in the region.“
Business Trainee Savannah Kelly is enjoying the first week of her traineeship and is excited to experience different areas within Council.
“I am looking forward to being able to learn and gain as much experience as I can throughout my time here,” Savannah said.
“I applied for this job as I saw it as an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down because it’s experience that I will benefit from in many ways.
“I hope that once I complete my traineeship, I can find a position within Council as I see it as a great place to work – it holds many opportunities and is an organisation that I can continue to learn from every day.”
Savannah is completing a Certificate III in Business while Luke will study a Certificate II in Civil Construction over the next year.
