City of Swan residents and Swan Active members are excited to see work commence on the $16 million refurbishment of Swan Active Midland.
With construction scheduled for 2021, Swan Active member Natalie D’addario was one of 445 people who recently provided feedback on the current facility and services as part of the City’s community consultation.
“I’ve been coming to Swan Active Midland for the past 13 years; it’s close to my daughters’ school, making it easy to go to the gym straight after school drop-off,” said Mrs D’addario.
“While my family and I enjoy using the pools, gym, creche and fitness classes, an upgrade to the facility will better service our needs as a growing family and attract more members.”
City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said improving the functionality and accessibility were two common themes outlined in the community feedback.
“With more than 1,000 people visiting Swan Active Midland each day, it is important to identify and understand how we can better serve all members of our community for many years to come,” said Mayor Bailey.
"Our long term investment in leisure facilities means our 150,000 residents can continue to receive a high level of service and maintain their health, fitness and connection to community."
The Swan Active Midland refurbishment will improve accessibility and functionality with upgrades to the gym, fitness room, creche, indoor pools, sports courts and changing rooms.
Ms D’addario said the planned refurbishment will breathe new life into a well-loved community facility and help residents lead a healthier lifestyle.
“I’ve always been impressed by the amount of options available at Swan Active Midland,” she said.
“I think everyone is looking forward to this much-needed upgrade, which will only enhance the high-quality service already provided by Swan Active staff.”
Various options for a staged construction or a full closure through the construction stage are currently being considered.
