Council has hooked up Hurlingham Preschool with a temporary plaice at the nearby former Brighton Angler’s Club for terms three and four while the preschool building is being extended and upgraded.
During the past two months, plenty of mussel-power has gone into refreshing the former Angler’s Club to ensure it’s a great space for the children to learn, explore and enjoy. We’ve repainted the building, replaced the carpet and external doors, updated the bathrooms, securely fenced the perimeter, built a ramp and pergola, and other exterior works.
To give the children a sense of familiarity in their temporary early education space, we’ve relocated the preschool’s indoor and outdoor educational materials and play equipment to the temporary site.
Hurlingham Preschool parent Nicole says: “My boys have enjoyed and transitioned well to the new space. The great natural green space is perfect for play and adventure – just what children need in these times of isolation. I am thankful for the efforts of the Hurlingham Community that came together to achieve this during the holidays so our children’s learning would be uninterrupted. What a great community we have.”
The relocation will ensure safety and the least disruption to children and teachers during refurbishment works to the preschool building, which are expected to begin by late August 2020.
The Hurlingham Preschool upgrade is being jointly funded by the Victorian Government and Bayside City Council. When completed in January 2021, Hurlingham Preschool’s larger indoor play space and improved amenities and functionality will ensure the preschool meets the immediate and future needs of local families in Bayside’s north.
