Mayor Jock Barker said the awards were a great way to recognise the contribution people have made to the community during the trying times of 2020.
“Covid-19 has disrupted all of our lives, but in a way it has brought out a sense of community among us that I have never seen before,” Mayor Barker said.
“There are people who have contributed and volunteered their time through this pandemic - to help the elderly, to help those isolating, or even to help those who were in unfortunate situations.
“Never have we relied more on the help of those closest to us, so why not nominate a neighbour, who demonstrated the volunteering spirit of Claremont. “We need to acknowledge those people and remember that giving a little can change a lot.”
The awards are open to both teams and individuals who have given tirelessly to the community, with prize money donated to the winner’s associated community group, charity or school.
Categories include Volunteer of the Year and Volunteer team of the year, both with a $1000 prize, as well as Senior Volunteer of the year and Youth volunteer of the year, both winning $500 respectively.
Online nominations are open until 5pm Friday 21 August 2020. For a copy of the terms and conditions or to nominate, please visit the Volunteer Awards page. Back To News Stories
