Work to start on Holloways Beach rock groynes

Council will start construction of two, 30-metre rock groynes at Holloways Beach next week to improve the beach amenity and provide long-term protection of the foreshore.

Works to construct a southern rock groyne at the end of Pandanus St will start Monday 27 July. 

The southern rock groyne will be constructed first and then works will move north to construct the new rock groyne near Oleander St.

Rock will be transported to each location in Holloways Beach from the Redlynch Quarry.

Sand erosion has been an ongoing concern at Holloways Beach, with various beach nourishment campaigns initiated over the years to address ongoing sand loss along the beach.

The two groynes will maximise the benefits of future beach nourishment programs by reducing the amount of sand being washed away.

Completion of this project is expected by January 2021, but the schedule of works is dependent on tide levels and weather conditions.
