Libraries ease restrictions

​From yesterday Canterbury-Bankstown Libraries extended its opening hours and made browsing of collections available at all nine branches for the first time since the coronavirus.

For Anna Nguyen of Punchbowl, seeing these services return has “overwhelmed” her.

“I’ve been using the library for years and now these changes have come back I can start to really appreciate this wonderful service for our community again,” Ms Nguyen said.

“From my heart it really feels so wonderful.”

Mayor Khal Asfour said residents such as Ms Nguyen will be able to keep using Canterbury-Bankstown libraries safely as Council rolls out its third and final stage in its COVIDSafe Library reopening plan.

“We know the community has been itching to get back into the libraries and browse our bookshelf collections, so I’m excited to announce residents can now do that up until 8pm at Camspie and Bankstown libraries, Monday and Thursday,” Mayor Asfour said.

“But it’s crucial everyone stays responsible and vigilant so we can continue to get through the coronavirus together.”

Strict social distancing and hygienic practices remain in place, and restricted operating hours will remain at Campsie and Bankstown, which will be open from 9.30am to 8pm on Monday and Thursday, and from 9.30am to 5pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. All other libraries will be open 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Council’s Click and Collect service and access to the online library catalogue is still available 24/7. Use of library computers, printers or meetings rooms are available by booking only. To avoid disappointment call your local library.
