Lifting Water Restrictions - Boggabilla and Mungindi

The current water restrictions in place for Boggabilla and Mungindi will be lifted as of today, Tuesday 7 July 2020.

The drop in temperature and regular rainfall has resulted in an increase in dam and river levels prompting Moree Plains Shire Council to re-evaluate the water restrictions in place in Boggabilla and Mungindi.

Moree Plains Shire Council’s Mayor, Katrina Humphries was pleased to announce the complete removal of water restrictions after almost a year of limitations.

“After the ongoing drought, water restrictions and recent issues of Covid-19 I could not be more pleased to deliver the residents from Boggabilla and Mungindi with good news,” said Mayor Humphries.

“While I cannot be more excited for this news, I implore our community to continue to be vigilant with water use so we do not see restrictions return any time soon.

“I am extremely pleased to see our wonderful community return to no restrictions,” concluded Mayor Humphries.

In Mungindi, recent infrastructure upgrades have assisted in reducing water restrictions.

At the beginning of the year, Mungindi faced level 5 water restrictions as the Barwon River reached critically low levels, the infrastructure upgrades have supported the practice of combining artesian and river water to make up the town’s potable water supply.

Combining artesian and river water has proven to be a sustainable alternative for residences of Mungindi and assisted in dramatically decreasing restrictions and safeguarded the capacity to supply the township of Mungindi with water.

In Boggabilla, substantial flows into the Macintyre River has secured supply allowing for restrictions to ease.

Council will continue to monitor water levels across all towns and liaise with the relevant government bodies to ensure our community remains restriction free.
