If you’re a young woman considering a career in science, Liverpool City Library’s Meet the UNSW Women in Maths and Science Champions online event is the perfect formula to make the most of this year’s National Science Week.
Join UNSW Women in Maths and Science Champions Dr Lisa Nivison-Smith, Dr Poppy Watson, Dr Laura McKemmish, Dr Zhi Yi Ong and Dr Celine Heu as they talk about their research and their careers live via the Liverpool City Library Facebook page.
“The areas of science and mathematics may be perceived as being traditionally dominated by men, but that is not and should not be the case,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.
"These incredibly accomplished academics are leading the way and showing the many opportunities young women can enjoy in these fields and the important contributions they can make in areas that impact on every aspect of modern life.”
UNSW Women in Maths and Science Champions is a development program to support University of New South Wales female research students and early career scientists to become science professionals.
The National Science Week event will give young people the opportunity to hear first-hand the experiences of women working in the areas of Optometry, Psychology, Chemistry, Behavioural Neuroscience, Microscopy and Biology.
There will also be an opportunity for those considering a career in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), or who simply have an interest in the work, to ask questions during a Q&A session.
The presentation will be shared live via the Liverpool City Library Facebook page on Wednesday 19 August, 11am-12.30pm.
