Wanneroo Council has approved over $21,000 in funding for upcoming events run for the local community, by the local community.

The City of Wanneroo’s community funding program has provided monetary support to hundreds of community groups over a number of years.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the latest round of funding supported events that celebrated community.

“I am delighted to see that our community will now benefit from these exciting events in the coming months,” she said.

The five recipients for this round are:

Bouah Kardio, President of the Association of the Liberian Community of Australia in Western Australia said the funding meant a lot to the Liberian community.

“This event helps us to socialise with fellow Liberian and the wider Australian communities. We showcase our beautiful African attires, culture and dishes. We also engage with service providers by building professional relationships that allow our community members to collect information about services in their community in the City of Wanneroo.

“On behalf of my community, we're very grateful for the amazing opportunity that our funding application has been approved.”

Council has adopted a revised Community Funding Program that includes a range of new funding categories that will be available for application at various points throughout the 2020/21 financial year.
