The State Government’s decision to move regional Victoria to Stage Three Stay at Home restrictions has changed some of Corangamite Shire Council’s services.
Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mason said the changes were likely to be in place for at least six weeks, subject to the Chief Health Officer’s ongoing advice.
“The customer service desk at the Civic Centre will remain open. This will allow us to continue providing services to members of the community who do not have digital access.” Mr Mason said.
“We would encourage people to only come in if absolutely essential and remind everyone that they can do most of their business on our website, or by emailing [email protected] or calling 5593 7100.
“If you do need to come in, don’t forget to wear a mask, practise social distancing, and use the hand sanitiser provided.
Mr Mason said kindergartens and childcare will remain open.
“The current advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer is that early years services remain safe places for staff and children.”
“Many of our frontline services, including works and services, landfill, and Home and Community Care will continue to operate as they have been, with the increased coronavirus precautions that had already been put in place.”
Mr Mason said Planning and Building Services inquiries are no longer available face to face but can be made via the other methods.
Playgrounds and skate parks, sport facilities, halls, the Theatre Royal, libraries and Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre would all be closed by Thursday.
Mr Mason said the Government would make more announcements in coming days so there could be further changes. “We will keep the community informed through our usual channels: our website, social media, e-News and via local newspapers and radio,” he said.
“The most authoritative source of expert information and current updates is the Department of Health and Human Services website where you can subscribe for updates. DHHS has a dedicated 24-hour hotline on 1800 675 398.”
Mr Mason reminded the community that the best ways to slow the spread of the virus are to wear a mask, wash your hands frequently with soap and water, cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow, and stay more than 1.5 metres away from other people.
