Council will plant more than 300 trees on nature strips throughout Macedon Ranges Shire in coming months as part of our annual tree planting program.
The tree planting program is conducted between May and September as this is the optimal time for planting, to give the trees the best chance of survival. All trees are selected from Council’s preferred species list.
Before planting, Council staff will inspect street tree-planting sites to check that the trees are a suitable for each location, which ensures cost-effective future maintenance.
Trees are purchased from local nurseries. Council staff will ensure the new plantings are well-looked after by watering regularly during the warmer months for the first two years to ensure that they mature into healthy and structurally sound trees.
Residents will be encouraged to help water the trees in hot weather. Residents will be provided with a bucket and an information brochure explaining how to look after the trees.
