The Cooma Regional Sports Hub has been given the go ahead with the official launch for this exciting project taking place last week. This $15 million project will see a three court indoor facility built within the Monaro High School precinct and a 400 metre synthetic athletics track built at Snowy Oval.

At the launch were representatives of the sporting organisations to benefit from the sports hub project, Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro, Monaro High School students and Councillors.

This is a shared project between Council, the NSW Department of Education and the NSW Office of Sport. Thank you to John and the state government for funding this project.

Home to Cooma Little Athletics, the Southern Cats Aussie Rules side, and used by Monaro cricketers, Snowy Oval is one of the region’s most used facilities. On Friday, the amenities building was officially opened, much to the excitement of these organisations.

The upgraded building boasts accessible bathrooms and improved kitchens. The only complaint I’ve heard is that the visitor change rooms are too comfortable.

All three snow resorts have opened and visitors are returning to our region. After a very difficult six months we are fortunate to see people returning to our towns and villages.

This is a different season to any we have experienced before. The resorts and local businesses are continuing to work hard to ensure social distancing measures are in place.

There are now three COVID-19 testing facilities in the region - Bombala, Cooma and Jindabyne. The Jindabyne facility has opened in the old community health centre, with bookings by appointment only. If we follow the advice from our health professionals we can keep our region COVID-19 safe.

Land values recently issued by the Valuer General of NSW have shown large variations across the Snowy Monaro region. These valuations are set by the Valuer General and not by Council. Increased land values don’t increase the overall revenue received by Council but it does change how the rates are distributed among ratepayers.
