An annual initiative of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in conjunction with the college art teachers of Tasmania, ARTRAGE will open at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) on Friday 7 August.

ARTRAGE is an inspiring snapshot into the creative minds of young Tasmanian students who are studying Art Production or Art Studio Practice as part of their Tasmanian Certificate of Education. The exhibition will showcase over 100 artworks shortlisted by art teachers in 2019.

Participating student artists have used a range of art processes, techniques and media, working from traditional painting, drawing and ceramics to sculpture, digital illustration, animation, photography and 3-D printing.

Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “Many people look forward to this annual exhibition to see the creativity and fearlessness of young artists. It speaks volumes about the quality of art teaching in our region and beyond as an all-of-state exhibition.  The North West is, as usual, well represented.”

The works exhibited reflect the originality of individual students and the creativity that is encouraged by participating schools and colleges from across the State.

The Gallery is open free to the public from 10 am to 4.30 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until further notice. Visitors will be asked to sign in on entry because the Gallery is required to capture the names and contact details of visitors to the gallery to comply with local, state and commonwealth regulations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Burnie Regional Art Gallery is an initiative of Burnie City Council and is assisted through Arts Tasmania by the Minister for the Arts.
