Today, Northern Beaches Council welcomed a virtual visit from Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales, via a special video streamed tour.

As part of Her Excellency’s community outreach program, she toured Council’s Coastal Environment Centre and Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre eager to hear about our experiences, current challenges and learn a little about what’s coming next.

Mayor Michael Regan hosted the visit which was also attended by several Council and Kimbriki staff.

The Governor was very engaging and eager to hear of the impact that COVID-19 has had on the region and the facilities she was able to visit.

The unique work carried out by the Coastal Environment Centre was on the agenda. The Governor enjoyed hearing about our environmental conservation projects, including the work Council is doing with the last breeding colony of Little Penguins in NSW and the North Head bandicoots.

Likewise, Her Excellency was interested in Council and Kimbriki’s role in helping the community manage waste resources, such as Kimbriki’s paint, household batteries, fluoro-tubes and styrene programs, as well as the Community Recycling Centre.

A highlight of the virtual visit was discussing the Eco Garden and how it pivoted in response to COVID-19, to deliver eco workshops to customers via Zoom and with online content.
