Baw Baw Family Day Care nominated for 12 awards

Baw Baw Shire Council’s Family Day Care service has received 12 nominations for the 2020 Excellence in Family Day Care Awards.

The annual awards recognise the amazing work done by educators, coordinators and services in the family day care sector to deliver high quality early childhood education and care to children across Australia. They are the only national awards dedicated entirely to the family day care sector.

The following nominations have been received:

Service of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Baw Baw Family Day Care Coordinator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Julie Metselaar Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Jody-Lynne Banfield Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Anne Bell Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Poorni De Silva Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Amy Ellis Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Tracy Lechte Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Belinda Ryer Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Rachael Smith Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Martha Smith Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Sophie Gray Educator of the Year (Victoria & Tasmania Region) – Briony Thomas

All nominees will be invited to a gala dinner in October where winners will be announced.

About Family Day Care

Family Day Care is a home-based Commonwealth Child Care Program operated by Baw Baw Shire Council. Care is provided for a maximum of four young children in the homes of registered and approved educators. Care may be full time, part-time or casual, with children also able to access care before and after school or kindergarten, outside regular hours or overnight.

During 2019/20, 31 Family Day Care educators have provided 140,135 hours of care to 388 children from 201 families across the Shire.

Baw Baw Family Day Care is a consistently high-performing service, rated as Exceeding the National Standards under the National Quality Framework, designed by Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority. This rating means going ‘above and beyond’ what is expected at the standard level.

Additionally, in 2019 Baw Baw’s Family Day Care program celebrated 30 amazing years of quality care and education for children and families in Baw Baw.
