Brogo-Bermagui precautionary boil water notice lifted

Bega Valley Shire Council and NSW Health advise the precautionary boil water notice for the Brogo-Bermagui water supply system is now lifted.

The advice is based on the most recent river turbidity level and Council’s testing of the supply system.

The lifting of the precautionary boil water notice occurs immediately. Water from the tap no longer needs to be boiled for any purpose.

A boil water notice was introduced on Thursday 6 August 2020 for the Brogo-Bermagui water supply system as a precautionary measure upon NSW Health advice concerning elevated turbidity levels in river water following catchment rainfall.

Council’s Manager of Water and Sewerage Services, Chris Best said the river water had continued to clear since the last rainfall to a level where NSW Health and Council are satisfied the water supply system can be managed safely without the need for boiling water.

"We understand the inconvenience caused by having to boil tap water and we would like to express our appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of all people affected since the precautionary boil water notice was introduced,” he said.

 The Brogo-Bermagui water supply system is an unfiltered water supply system with water disinfected using chlorine only.

 “A water filtration plant will reduce the need for boil water notices in the future,” Mr Best said.

 “We are in the process of designing a water filtration plant for construction in 2021.”
