The City of Fremantle has launched a major new television marketing campaign designed to inspire Western Australians to rediscover their favourite port city.
The campaign, featuring two 15 second commercials, is part of the City of Fremantle’s strategy to boost visitation and support local businesses in their economic recovery from COVID-19.
Mayor Brad Pettitt said with travel to other parts of the world still restricted, now was the perfect time for Western Australians to revisit Fremantle.
“Fremantle has long been a favourite of travellers from across the country and around the world, and now is the time for locals who may not have been to Freo for a while to discover why,” Mayor Pettitt said.
“Fremantle’s independent shops and unique boutiques provide a shopping experience that you just won’t find in your standard suburban shopping centre, and with the revitalisation that’s currently underway in Freo there are heaps of sophisticated and funky new bars, cafes and restaurants to come and explore.
“Add that to Freo’s famous family-friendly attractions and iconic locations and you’ve got yourself a great day out, and when night falls you can enjoy some awesome live music at one of Freo’s legendary music venues or even enjoy a staycation at one of our beautiful hotels.
“Fremantle has been hit pretty hard by COVID-19 and it’s been a tough time for local businesses, so this campaign is all about getting people back into Freo and giving these businesses the best chance to bounce back quickly and strongly.”
The commercials will be aired on free-to-air television, catch up TV, YouTube and social media channels from today until mid-September.
The City’s Economic Development and Marketing team began planning the campaign at the height of the COVID-19 restrictions and moved into the implementation phase following council approval of the 2020-21 annual budget in July.
The campaign forms part of the marketing activities planned for the 2020-21 financial year to achieve the objectives outlined in the City’s Destination Marketing Strategic Plan 2018-2022.
