Keep Shredding
Bayside City Council 20 Aug 2020

Skate parks might be off limits for now, but skateboarders can keep shredding with a new challenge designed to showcase new tricks from the backyard.

Renton Millar from Bayside skate school, Shredability, has teamed up with Council to create an online space and competition for skateboarders.

“Stay at home restrictions have been in place for some time now, which has meant skate parks are closed and this has left a gap for young people to stay engaged and connected,” Renton said.

“The Shredability backyard challenge is a bit of fun for the crew that are restricted to their backyards and driveways.”

Prizes will be given for best trick as well as other fun themed awards.

“The challenge is really for anyone interested in skateboarding, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be the best move, it can be something silly or creative.

“It’s just for a laugh, and to stay active. You can do it on a BMX or a scooter too,” Renton said.

Bayside skate parks and bowls are currently filled with material such as sand and tan bark to help protect the community from the spread of COVID-19.
