As you start to plan a small party or get together, please take balloons off your shopping list. Be it air or helium filled, both can become litter on our streets or end up in our oceans.

According to a CSIRO report nearly half of all seabird species are likely to ingest balloon debris. Many other marine life are also at risk too, for instance it only takes one piece of plastic to kill a turtle.

And a rogue balloon can cause issues in the bush too.  Like marine animals, birds, mammals and reptiles might mistake them as food and they are also at risk of becoming entangled in the balloon and its ribbon.
