Planned fire hazard reduction burns – Springsure and Rolleston

Posted on August 20, 2020

Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC) is planning a controlled hazard reduction burn of council land at Springsure Creek and on the reserve at Wealwandangie Road, near Springsure Country Gun Club.  The burn will take place between Monday 24 August – Friday 28 August, 2020, weather permitting.

Volunteers from Springsure Urban Fire Brigade will assist with the burn.

The purpose of the burn is to reduce fuel loads and protect residents from uncontrolled fire as the area has been determined a high risk by the Central Highlands Regional Council and QFES for this summer season.

People in the area may see smoke and ash throughout the burn and are encouraged to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property. Residents are asked to close windows and doors and keep their medications close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.

Smoke could decrease visibility on the roads, so motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

The burn is part of the QFES and Rural Fire Services Operation Cool Burn 2020.

A controlled hazard reduction burn will also take place this Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August, 2020 on land around Brown Street and another site around Wongalees Street, Rolleston, weather permitting.

This burn was originally scheduled for June but was postponed due to weather conditions.
