The Shire of Coolgardie joined with stakeholders from numerous agencies today to attend a Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) training session in Coolgardie.
Training included public information, multi-agency coordination, welfare, evacuation and recovery from emergency events such as bushfires.
Yvette Grigg, District Emergency Management Advisor from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services presented on Emergency Management including the roles and function of the Local Emergency Management Committee as well as Local Government emergency management obligations.
Shire President, Malcolm Cullen said emergency management planning is incredibly important.
“Bushfires are a real threat to the Shire. It is vital that ahead of the summer months we plan and prepare accordingly to protect our community.”
“The Local Emergency Management Committee play a pivotal role in keeping our community safe from both bush fires as well as other potential emergencies.”
“Today’s training session was informative and certainly helps us put our best foot forward.”
The Shire of Coolgardie is currently updating the Emergency Services section of its website to include more resources for the community this year. The Shire is also planning a forum with relevant agencies so that community members can also learn about how best to prepare for emergencies.
