Council has provided 45 community organisations with grants of up to $7,500 each for projects that will create opportunities to connect our communities in new ways, as we continue to navigate the ongoing implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Community Grants recipients will share in over $208,000 to offer a wide range of programs and activities to Bayside residents.
While we supported a variety of projects, this year’s round of funding gave a higher priority to local not-for-profit community organisations with agendas to improve mental health and build social connections in response to the long-term impacts of COVID-19.
Bayside Mayor, Councillor Clarke Martin said the grants are a tangible way for council to support re-activating our community groups as they adjust their programming and plans to the COVID-19 environment.
“It’s been a tough year but our community groups have been incredibly resilient in finding new ways to deliver their programs,” Cr Martin said.
“The 45 grant recipients reflect the diverse groups and interests of the Bayside community and give residents the chance learn a new skill, share an experience or meet someone new.
From digital storytelling to podcasts, these new approaches will help encourage community re-connection, in turn reducing social isolation and improving the overall health and wellbeing of the Bayside community.”
In 2020/21 the total funding available increased from $140,384 to $208,548.
