Council to consider Oval 4 sportsground contract in September
Bayside City Council 24 Aug 2020

Council reconfirmed its commitment to redeveloping Elsternwick Park Oval 4 for formal sport at its 18 August 2020 Council meeting and has allocated additional funds to the project. The contract award for sportsground reconstruction and preliminary lighting works will be considered at the 15 September 2020 meeting.

The August meeting received 26 submissions from the community, as well as a petition signed by 20 residents.

Councillors discussed the impact of sportsground works on the community’s open space, noting that the areas surrounding Oval 4 which would not be impacted during the works cover 11.5 hectares.

The project budget for the sportsground reconstruction and lighting works is now $1.65M. This includes costs for upgrading power to the site, constructing the required access road, removing contaminated soil, as well as the oval reconstruction and lighting installation. Council did not provide Chief Executive Officer delegation to award the sportsground contract, instead resolving to consider the contract at its 15 September 2020 meeting.

More information about Council’s plans to resurface the sportsground, improve drainage, install lighting, and build a basic pavilion at Oval 4 can be viewed here.

Council’s 15 September 2020 meeting agenda will be available via its website on 10 September 2020. The meeting will be live-streamed via Council’s website from 5pm, and interested members of the community can also submit questions to the meeting via bayside.vic.gov.au/council-meetings. Please note that as the 15 September 2020 report will deal only with awarding a contract, Council is unable to receive written submissions from members of the public.
